DoodleLearn

Word Galaxy: a word game in all of your family’s languages, for grown-ups and young children to play together.

Coming soon to iPhone and iPad

About

A galaxy of words your family builds together.

DoodleLearn is a multilingual word game for families with young children. Every word your family finds becomes a star in your galaxy. Every sentence that connects two words becomes a bridge, heard in all of your family’s languages.

Grown-ups and children explore the galaxy together, play short games, and earn a stamp for each word truly learned. Stars glow brighter with play and dim when a word hasn’t been practiced for a while.

There is no account to create. Your family’s words, doodles, photos and recordings stay on your device.

Features

Stars and bridges

Drop one star on another to connect them with a sentence: one of about 60 action or comparison words, a “both” pick like “can both fly”, or your own sentence in any language.

All your family’s languages

A built-in dictionary of 560 everyday words in 10 languages fills in a new word’s other languages instantly and offline.

Draw it, snap it, say it

Find a picture by typing or saying a word, draw it on the whiteboard, or take a photo. Family doodles replay just as they were drawn.

Games to play together

Star Hunt, Doodle Telephone, Voice Memory, Bridge Builder, Story time along the bridges, and a daily Wonder Walk.

Family voices

Record any word or sentence in your own voice, and your recording plays instead of the device voice everywhere that text is spoken.

Stamps and a treasure chest

A word earns a stamp when it is won on 3 different days. A full stamp card opens the treasure chest, with an optional surprise message from home.

Privacy

DoodleLearn has no accounts, ads, analytics, trackers or third-party SDKs. The words, photos, drawings and family voice recordings you add stay on your device.

It asks for permission to use the camera (to take a photo for a star’s picture), the microphone (to record family voices or say a word) and speech recognition (to turn a spoken word into text).

Only two things can go online:

  • Apple’s speech recognition, only when you say a word in a language your iPhone can’t recognize by itself. The microphone button shows a little cloud when this applies.
  • “Look up unknown words online”, an optional switch in the grown-ups’ corner, behind the parent gate. It is off by default. When a grown-up turns it on and the built-in dictionary doesn’t know a word, the typed word is sent to the MyMemory translation service. Words found this way are marked 🌐 so you can check them.
